Flavored Honey History
Kevton’s Flavored Honey’s are a direct result of a customer coming up to
me at a show and saying, “Your teas are so pure and natural, you need to
sweeten them with something natural like honey.” If he only knew what he
had started that June 1995 day! I personally could not stand honey, but
the pure concept hit a cord with me. I came home from this show and
discussed this conceptual idea with my business partner.
Fortunately for you and me, he did not have a mind block concerning honey.
As
with every new idea, we went to work on suppliers, growers, and any
general information we could gather. (It is usually too much info!!) He
supplied me with countless samples of different types of honey. We
subjected our children, (who are brutally honest with their opinions),
family members and friends to endless tastings. We came to the excited
stage when we agreed to not just supply a natural sweetener for our teas
but to custom flavor the end product to flavor match and enhance our teas.
Quite quickly we came up with a blend that we all agreed would flavor
nicely.
In
September 1995, I took tasting samples to the World Trade Center Dallas
Market Show with me for feedback. People went crazy, they would taste one
flavor and without any encouragement did not stop until they had tasted
all the flavors, especially men. I came home totally convinced that we
would continue to the next stage, which would be direct test marketing.
That fall we had a hard time keeping up with the demand. The “Bee My
Honey” line was officially born. And I must say “I love our honeys” every
flavor. The tea/honey concept is an old one, we didn’t invent it. What we
did was find the lightest, purest honey we could find and flavor it with
natural flavors to exactly match our flavors of tea. A match made in
heaven, literally. The flavors of honey, unlike the flavors in the tea,
are strong; something that has not been done with honey to date. The
natural flavors do not take away from any of the natural and healthy
benefits of the honey, but add to the taste tremendously.
Honey contains minerals, vitamins and healthy enzymes. The only other
places enzymes are found are in uncooked food, such as raw fruits and
vegetables. The minute a food is cooked the enzymes are killed. We use our
flavored honeys in a million ways, from straight sweetening to flavoring
and sweetening homemade bread, sauces, in & on desserts, main courses to
smoothies as well as ice cream, pancakes, biscuits, etc. etc… My three
year old loves our flavored honey on his peanut butter sandwiches.
Please send us your ideas and recipes using any of our products….we love
listening and trying new things!!! You know we listen to our customers!!
Thank you for caring and making us so successful at what we do. We truly
owe this to our customers for having distinguishing taste buds and pushing
us to be better.
